Increase Body Activity
Walk whenever possible. Forget bus, train and taxi. Skip the building lift and walk up and down the staircase. Get down a few blocks away from your destination and walk the rest of the way. Whenever you get a chance stand rather than sit. Don't be a couch potato. Always be on the move.
Exercises you can do when doing house work
- Try to do your own dusting and swabbing. This not only exercises the body but also tones it.
- Stretch and twist whenever you want to reach for something on the shelf.
- Whenever you stand up from a chair, grasp arms with feet flat on the floor and push up until you are standing erect.
- When looking for anything in the bottom drawer of a cupboard or a cabinet, keeping heels flat on the floor, do a deep knee bend. When you straighten up keep your heels flat, let your legs do the work. The same technique should be applied for dusting and making beds that require considerable bending.
- Whenever you carry any grocery, do not carry the bags in front of you with your shoulders slumping. Hold the bags high, keep the arms straight and shoulders back.
- Be very conscious of your posture if you want to look slim and trim.
