At Home Versus in Salon Relaxers

You Probably Already Kkow Where I Stand on home relaxing: I think you should leave it to the professionals. As talented as you may be with hair - and I bet you are talented - you haven’t gone to beauty school nor do you have the experience that comes from spending day after day facing all kinds of straightening situations.

Making your choice

Here’s another way to think of it: If you do your own hair, think how tired your arms are going to get from reaching behind your head to apply relaxer to your nape, your crown, and the spots behind your ears. How are you going to see what parts of the back are done, or even if you’ve applied the relaxer formula evenly? What are you going to do if the relaxer doesn’t seem to be working - or if it seems to be working a bit too well? If you go to a respected stylist, you can sit back, relax, and let the professional do all the work. Your turn to work will come after the service.

I suggest choosing color OR a relaxer or permanent wave. Do both and you risk very damaged, very dull hair. If you positively cannot live without changing your hair’s wave pattern and wearing hair color, wait 3 or 4 weeks after the relaxer or perm, then head to your salon for semi-permanent or demi-permanent hair color. Your strands can’t take the ammonia and peroxide found in permanent color.
